Questa foto della galassia M51 e della sua compagna NGC 5195 è stata scattata il 1 luglio 2005 da Arcidosso (GR) al fuoco diretto di un telescopio Vixen R200SS (200 mm F:4) su montatura EQ6 con Vixen Skysensor 2000 PC. L'esposizione è la somma di 5 frames da 5 minuti ciascuno con la Canon EOS300D settata a 400 ISO, è stata effettuata con autoguida SBIG ST-4 e  rifrattore 102/500 in parallelo. Successivamente i frames sono stati sommati con Maxim DL, è stato sottratto il dark, e processate mediante applicazione di uno stretching, maschera sfocata e bilanciamento dei colori. Si nota anche la Supernova 2005cs, scoperta appena 4 giorni prima. This photo of the M51 galaxy and the neighbour NGC 5195 was taken on july 1, 2005 from Arcidosso, in Italy, near Grosseto, at the prime focus of a Vixen R200SS telescope (200 mm F:4) using a Syntha Eq6 mount with a Vixen Skysensor 2000 PC. The photo is the sum of 5 frames of 5 minutes using a Canon Eos 300D Digital Rebel camera at 400 ISO and they were taken with a SBIG ST-4 autoguide on a small refractor 102/500. Then I summed the frames with Maxim DL, subtracted the dark, and processed the file with a stretching, an unsharp mask and, last, a color balance. You can see also the supernova 2005cs, discovered only 4 days before.
